GIS, Paleoclimates and Settlement Systems
My PhD research at the University of Wyoming focuses on using Global Climate Model data (WorldClim Data) and in a GIS platform to reconstruct paleoclimate landscapes in western Eurasia. I am interested in how different hominin groups responded, in terms of settlement patterning (at the continental scale) to different paleoclimate variables.
My research focuses on the following themes:
1. A study of H. neanderthalensis climate preferences during the Last Interglacial (LIG) (ca. 130 kya-116 kya) in Europe.
2. A study of H. sapiens climate preferences during the height of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) (ca. 21 kya) in Europe and its relationship to diet-breadth.
3. A study of the hominin fundamental climate niche across four time periods (LIG, LGM, MH, today)
